Coming back from their vaudeville show in Kalamazoo, Amber, Harp, and Tig found themselves stranded and despirately trying to get home. So, they followed the railroad tracks, hoping that it belonged to the ellusive Tigville train, the "Damfino". Soon, a blizzard blinded them from seeing the tracks, and after hours of losing hope, the Damfino shuttles out from behind a curtain of mist and snow.

Sorry for how big the thing is, I didn't want to lose any detail. I've always wanted to do a snowy train scene, and I've also always wanted to draw Buster Keaton's train from the film "The General", this is as close as I could get to the train without going insane from all the extra details. The characters were shrunk, colored and then added into the train scene. Yeh, I know, it's like a scene out of the "Polar Express" or something, but seeing as how I've never read the book or saw the film, this is fairly original. lol

EDIT: sorry.. the smudged tree (far left) still looks bad, but it's a lil better than before. I couldnt stand having the ENGLAND label being so messy, or bright when it's foggy, so i fixed that. Added a few brass bolts and corners to the steamer trunk to make it look older (Tig painted the giant words on the side, though it looks like some 1980s graffiti.. oops). Basically just cleaned it up a little.

What's great picture. Blizzard and train - both wonders are beautiful!
I like a mood of this piece so much. Snow is very well done.
Ah, now this is cool  I've got some weird deal about trains in the snow, and the animals in their nifty outfits just add to the greatness :D Nice work!
O love the steam locomotive in this...I'm a sucker for 4-4-0 American class locomotives, haveing worked on restoring one and haveing my finger-prints on the real General (And chaser Texas). lol

I love the atmopsher in this, great ambiance with the fog and locomotive.

The REAL General and Texas?? Oooo.. *envy*

I've never been on a real train that wasn't in an amusement or historic park. Train whistles have always meant "home" to me, no matter where I am, if i hear the chugging or whistle calls in the distance, I feel like i'm home. So, of course, my story has a train that emerges from the distance and takes them home. I love old trains the best, such as this one. They have such character, majesty, and carry sweet nostalgia. Watching Buster Keaton films just reaffirmed my love for trains because he loved them so much that he tried to work them into as many movies as he could, which resulted in tons of crazy stunts being performed on trains and also with the train itself. In one film, he even had a reproduction of Stephenson's Rocket train (the Rocket doesn't really live up to its name, it was kind of a dud LOL).

I don't know half as much as you about trains, that I'm sure of. It's wonderful to know that someone who works with trains has seen my picture! I can't imagine what it'd be like to work with trains and restore one. It must be amazing!

yah, I've worked on a number of steamers: 4-6-2 #750, 0-6-0 #97, 4-4-0 #104, and General and Texas.

The Texas is my absolute favorite steam locomotive of all time.
